Return to interview list

Wyman Bartlett: I'm Wyman Bartlett, and I am a senior student at The Art Institute of Atlanta.

Aarron Walter: So are you working in the industry, or do you have a freelance project you're working on? And how does Web Standards fit into that?

Wyman: I do more freelance and I do little side projects mostly. As far as how it fits in, it helps with search engine optimization. It makes code cleaner if it needs to be changed or updated. It makes it more modular for future expansion.

Aarron: Is this something that you have a discussion with? Do you use this as a selling point for your services with your clients?

Wyman: Usually not. I just do it out of habit.

Aarron: OK, but would it be potentially a selling point? Would they be attracted to Web Standards as a way of building their project?

Wyman: There are definitely benefits to it, but a lot of times when I say that I'll be using Web Standards, they're going to say, the typical response I get is, “How much more is that going to cost me?” or “How much longer is that going to take as opposed to regular development?“ My response is, ”That is my regular development.“ So I just stopped bringing it up. It just makes it more difficult.
