Teaching | Web Standards Documentary Project | Peter Bault
Peter Bault: My name is Peter Bault. I'm a senior here at The Art Institute of Atlanta, studying Interactive Media Design.
I'm currently working at a design firm called What's Up Interactive. Generally for all new projects, we follow Web Standards as close as we can. The only time that we ever stray from that is whenever we need to make updates on some of the ancient websites that have been around for more than five years or so.
Generally we have these new updates we need to do, and that for the sake of time, we have to use all kinds of hacks and not so much Web Standards means as getting things in there.
But for all new projects, yeah, we follow Web Standards as close as we can, and we generally try to follow that in every project we do.
Aarron Walter: But was the company already using Web Standards when you got there?
Peter: For the most part, yeah. But I don't think it's necessarily that they are like, 'We're What's Up, and we follow Web Standards.' It's more like there are only two real XHTML and CSS developers, and we just both follow Web Standards.
It's just that we've just taken it on our own to do it. It not really company policy or anything. If they were asked, they would say that, but they probably wouldn't know what it meant.
Aarron: And how important is accessibility when you develop?
Peter: Unfortunately, I'd probably say less important. It varies by client and by project.
